18U AAA Tryouts

The Greater Victoria Baseball Association (GVBA) will be having tryouts for the 2020 18U AAA team and all players from ages 15 to 18 (birth years 2002, 2003 and 2004) are encouraged to attend. It is important that players in Victoria wishing to play 18U AAA baseball in 2020 register prior to attending.

18U AAA is a competitive wood bat league with a 40-game schedule beginning in early April and with possible play into early August with the Provincial Championships. The 18U AAA schedule involves significant travel to play up-Island, the Lower Mainland, and the Interior teams.

Additions have been made to the coaching staff for the 2020 season. We have brought on three new full time coaches this year: Nic Cucovich, Kurt Horne and Hendriko van der Mey. Both Nic and Kurt have Minor League Baseball experience under their belt with Nic playing in the Kansas City Royals organization and Kurt playing in the New York Mets organization. Rico has played baseball at the collegiate level. These coaching additions help ensure we have quality coaching for all positions and ensure the players will get as much time devoted to them as possible. Another addition along side the coaching staff is a Strength and Conditioning unit run by Sam Caouette, one of our coaches from last year. Sam has recently graduated from the Pacific Institute for Sports Excellence and achieved his National Strength and Conditioning Specialist designation. This will be a major value to the team this season ensuring the players stay healthy and play to their potential throughout the long season ahead.

Tryouts this year will begin on January 11, 2020 and run for 10 Saturdays until March 14th. They will be held at the Oak Bay Rec Center indoor turf facility form 6:00-8:00pm. We will be focusing on helping players improve with quality instruction while we assess and make the difficult decision of selecting this team. Regardless of you or your player making this team they will receive quality instruction to help them prepare for the season ahead. We are bound by BC Minor Baseball rules to limit our roster size to 18 players maximum. The cost of tryouts is $250 per player. This helps with insurance coverage, facility fees and coaching fees. Payment instructions will be sent to all registered players.
